PROGETTO ISRAELE
1|2|3 Solos & Duos

Being aware of what we have done since 1986, when we started, we deem it necessary to continue renewing substance and form, structure and governance, vocation and creative processes of our future journey by identifying new and fresh people to whom handing down these 36 years of history of live art, of which at least 26 totally devoted to dance.

A rejuvenated curiosity will first of all help us look back at the international dimension, which is crucial to the festival, but was sacrificed due to pandemic restrictions. This year we will have artists from France, Argentina, Québec/Canada, Israel, Lebanon, Senegal, Mexico, India, Belgium, and Poland, alongside the most promising Italian artists. For them, MILANoLTRE intends to be a constant point of reference by relaunching a project that had been tested in the past three years and was called Artisti Italiani Associati. A group of Italian choreographers/companies, such as Stefania Ballone, Fabrizio Favale, Lara Guidetti, Salvo Lombardo, Manfredi Perego, and Roberto Zappalà, pool together their own energies with those of the festival, in the common vision of a national dance of great value. Passion, planning, contemporary style in constant evolution, different visions and languages of the Italian choreographic scene, all kindle the attention of audiences that are increasingly competent to understand it. To complete the Italian offer there will be: the new national premieres of Abbondanza/Bertoni, Roberto Provenzano, Ezio Schiavulli; Roberto Zappalà and Manfredi Perego, each with two creations; the site specific Coefore Rock & Roll by Enzo Cosimi at the PAC Padiglione d’arte Contemporanea with the participation of 9 young Erynies and 15 Figures from the Accademia Susanna Beltrami/Dancehaus; the brand new projects by Michela Priuli and Lorenzo Morandini within the context of Germogli and Incubatore Danza. This edition will devote more attention and space to the newborn section Affollate Solitudini TEENS, not only by scouting out with the new generations of absolute beginners who will enrich the section Vetrina Italia Domani, but also with new commissions to artists who want to challenge themselves with the dimension of solo performances.

The international section will place a focus on artists from Québec/Canada: Hélène Blackburn/Cas Public, Louise Lecavalier, Danny Morissette and Daphnée Laurendeau choreographed ‘from remote’ by Andrea Peña, Christophe Garcia, Dominique Porte and Ismaël Mouaraki; on the project Crossroads#Inhabitingtheworld linked to the MIC international call Boarding Pass realized in partnership with DanceHauspiù/Contart, La Sfera Danza, Megakles Ballet, Eurasia Dance Project and four young artists dipped in the reality of four corners of the world: Girish Kumar, Matteo Sedda, Sly, Marta Wolowiec; by the presence of the Argentine duo Alfonso Barón and Luciano Rosso directed by Hermes Gaido; by the extraordinary combination of solos built by the French Noé Soulier on Frédéric Tavernini and Vincent Chaillet for Affollate Solitudini; on the beginning of a partnership with the Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre in Tel Aviv, aimed at the mutual promotion of the young generations of Israeli and Italian artists in the two countries, starting with the project 1|2|3 Solos & Duos in which 6 very young choreographers and at least 10 performers are involved to then show their creations.

Protagonists of the present: a mosaic of artists different for their origin and background, language and generation, who are linked by a common love for challenges and experimentation underlining the growing need for stylistic differentiation. Each of them has a repertoire that summarizes creative philosophy and communication in a single artistic thought. Their styles, trends, psychologies, different languages wink at other forms of art or challenge the classics in reinterpretations that, brought back to a contemporary dimension, disorient our point of view, our ability to understand an original vision in a shared imagery. The choreographers’ style ranges between a fashion catwalk, an instant movie and an eclectic street performance or they draw figures that come to life as on a pop-art canvas. Each one with its own color, flavor, rhythm is matched to dancers and performers with an extraordinary performing talent that, in many cases, is characterized by a relentless dedication and commitment.

A program consisting of about 50 events including shows, masterclasses, books, meetings, the brand new Conferenze Danzate, and it will lead us along our endelss journey to discover an increasingly captivating international and national dance.

    …and the dance continues
